The RIST (Research Institute of Industrial Science & Technology:
Eu Seong, Director) and ISON (Kim Eung-euk, CEO), a promising hidden champion
in Pohang, have submitted a joint R&D project, which has been selected as
the “2019 Research Project” by the Steel & Convergence Technology Research
Association (SCRA: Lee Deuk-lak, chairman of the board). They began the project
on the first of this month.

This joint development project with
Dr. Shin Hong-cheol’s team of the RIST (Research Institute of Industrial
Science & Technology) is a “development of steel beam foundation of
photovoltaic power generation structure and modular construction,” and it will
receive KRW 400 million research funds from the Steel & Convergence
Technology Research Association.

According to ISON officials, the
“steel beam foundation construction method” using POSCO’s corrosion-resistant
steel (POSMac) and the “modular construction method” that constructs preassembled
structures with fixed sizes and photovoltaic modules by moving them to the construction
field are innovative installation methods of photovoltaic power generation
system. In addition, an increase of KRW 50 billion or more in sales a year is
expected if this project succeeds.

They also added that it would be an
example of mutual growth that expands the sales solution of POSCO’s steel
products by supporting a commercialization R&D of ISON’s patent application
technologies (with the RIST, a local research institute.
